Team Esparanza – Monday!

Team Esperanza (Harmony)
Today we did not get to go to the autism center because they weren’t there when we arrived. We headed to the park site and got to spend more time there as a result. We got to play fun games with them, mostly soccer, and made some fun crafts. We did an Easter egg hunt today instead of yesterday because we didn’t have candy for them yesterday. The kids loved searching for the colorful eggs and showing each other what they got in them. We also told them the story of the Good Samaritan. The children enjoyed watching Jacob get “beat up” by the robbers. Overall, it was a very fun day and we can’t wait for another full day tomorrow!

First day of ministry – The Flock

We followed Pastor Pedro’s family to the church They took us a different way, but it was fine. When we got to the church we met some women of the church and they had us walk up and down the street giving any kids we saw a flyer to the church. Then we went back to the church and more people showed up and we sang 3 songs and did our skit. After that we did our craft which they liked. Then we walked to the park down the street and the kids searched for eggs. When they found all the eggs we played ocho and pato pato gando. We talked to people in the park and took a couple pics. We then walked back to the church and said our good byes and told them we would be back tomorrow. We ate while we drove to R

efugio and ended up going to the wrong place but then found it. When we got there we talked to the volunteers and they told us to just color and play with the men so we did. We colored, talked, and played basketball and soccer. We said our good byes and left now we are at walmart and about to head out.

Helping at the build site

Some students helped the build team with some projects today. Scraping walls, digging trenches, and anything else that was asked of them! What a blessing to the build team!

We also were able to meet up with some of our mexican friends today, and meet with the some of the family we are building the house for. One of the daughters even volunteered to translate for one our teams! God is good!

Helping at Refugio de Amor

The teams split up today since we don’t start our VBS ministry until tomorrow. One group spent the morning at Refugio de Amor, the home for disabled men. Although they expected to help with the landscaping, instead were asvked to assist with personal care of the men upon arrival – Mexicali Flexicali!

They interacted with the men in the yard, playing basketball and soccer and helped the APU team complete tasks like trimming nails of the residents.
