Saturday in Mexicali!

So it’s been a long but great day! We had our first shopping spree in the market, our first night of worship and we’ve received our sites!

So Heppa’s Peppas (John Hepper, Heather Hess, Kara Miller, Mackenzie Wille, Jenesa Brenton, Katie Kinzel, Danielle Briley, Sarah Miller, Brett Gibson and Mackenzie Ovensen) will be going to a disability clinic in the morning to work with and spend time with those in need there. In the afternoon they will be traveling to a new orphanage to do their programs and to love on kids that don’t always get that.

The Cuernavacians (Rachel Miller, Maddie Gareau, Andrea Carrabia, Ashli Falk, Matt Corsetti, Emili Wilson, Ali Briley, Ari Britz, Mitchell Porte and Mackenzie Haglund) will be taking over team Stephen. This I am pretty jealous about! Team Stephen is in charge of community service. Sooo, in the AM they will be leading other teams in the cleaning and painting of a park here in Mexicali! And they get free t-shirts! In the afternoon, they will be going to the park site that we have been ministering to for the past couple of years and do their program and love on the children of a broken neighborhood.

We are very excited to see what God has planned for us all in the week to come.

  1. Yea for our teams!!! Both sound like they will be life changers! Miss all of you, and we are so proud of you all!! Please love on all of our Mexican family for us – not even sure who is all staying at camp, but please give Yadira and Carla extra hugs from us! Worship under the stars for us, eat an extra churro or two for us, and know that we are lifting you all up in prayer!! As always, love to you all.

  2. WOW! Sounds like you all have been working hard and having fun!

How was your first day at your sites? How many children have you fallen in love with? For those who went to MRAV, how was it?? Mackenzie H., did you get to see Johnny today? How many kids did you guys squeeze into the van at the park site? Jason, did you see Angel and scream his name obnoxiously like you always do??

Praying that you all are experiencing God in all that you do. What a great way for team Cuernavacians to not only witness to the park site but to also witness to the other students that are working with Team Stephen!

I love and miss you all and am SO SO SO excited for this next week!

Chris, please take my Jason on a date for me tonight in the market for some tacos. Maybe even include a good night kiss to him for me?

    Dios te Bendiga Octane!!

  3. Sounds like you all are loving on the wonderful families of Mexicali. What a blessing you are and we are so proud of you!!! I pray the roosters let you sleep in tomorrow so you can be fresh for your next big day, love the Ovesens

  4. Please send Christopher all of our love from home! Tell him how proud of him we are and that even though he’s thousands of miles away, we are always with him. Lord, bless Christopher and all of his fellow God-loving servants. May he spread his love and understanding to all those in need. Amen. We love you Chris.

  5. Sounds like you all are being blessed with some amazing experiences so far! I am living vicariously through you all, and read these posts aloud at work! Thinking of you all :) Sending love to my Mackenzie and all of my octane family!

  6. What a wonderful time you all are having, and great work you are doing! My love goes out to Rachel and Sarah Miller….so proud of you and I know you are enjoying every moment!

  7. What a wonderful time you are having, and what great work you are doing! My love goes out to Rachel and Sarah Miller; I am so proud of you both, and I am following your adventures every day!

  8. Hello to Heppa’s Peppas, The (Soooper)Cuernavacians ( did you know that Cuernavaca” is derived from the Nahuatl phrase “Cuauhnāhuac” and means “surrounded by or close to trees) and of course…The Build team. What a blessing you are to all those you are with. May you be blessed too!! Rachel and Sarah, I think of you all the time. Kate and I miss you and are so proud of and happy for you. Know that you are loved and we can’t wait to see you later this week. The last update was Saturday, it’s now Monday!! We are really struggling here waiting on information. We are forced to wait in our homes with beds, bathrooms, kitchens, environmental controls, not to mention nearly every other comfort. It’s really not fair;) Just a little levity. May God bless you all!!

  9. It sounds like everything is going well so far! Best wishes and prayers as you continue to do God’s work! Thinking of all of you, especially John and Heather!

  10. Goooood morning Octane!!!!!

I hear things are fantastic in Mexicali! Every time I see a picture, my heart both jumps with excitement to see you all doing so well and then feels a twinge of sadness that I am not there with you. I am so incredibly proud of each and every one of you!!!

Make sure you give Jeff, Jason, and Chris some extra love today and let them know they are doing a great job! Give Andrea support, love, and an extra taco as her head is probably swimming in some random mix of Enlish and Spanish…it probably hurts too! Give Dale and the build team extra encouragement…I am sure they are exhausted. Tell Matt that everything will be fine on Thursday and to wait one more day to start stressing about it and love yoir team!

Speaking of teams, how is it going?? Are you holding leader meetings? Have you assessed your day and talked about room for improvement? Are you going in with a halpy heart? Look for God and follow His lead!

In news from home, things here are great. Zachariah is doing well …he is even finally eating more and sleeping a bit less. Nathaniel is sharing all of his toys with “baby brother” and has almost learned not to put the toys on brother’s head while sharing them. :) Jeff, he misses you! And, in the most random news of all, Nathaniel is TERRIFIED of the movie Frozen. Anyone that can explain that one gets a free taco on Chris…either Chris. :)

We can’t wait to see you at the hotel! Zachariah sleeps one more hour than the roosters, so that should be good. :)

    Lots of love from home,
    Amy
